Why We Don’t Allow Outside Tumbling at Other Gyms

Liberty Cheer All-Star Program

At Liberty Cheer All-Stars, our All-Star program is built on three pillars: safety, consistency, and teamwork. For that reason, we have a firm policy that athletes in our All-Star program may not participate in outside tumbling classes at other gyms.

This policy is not about limiting your athlete’s opportunities — it’s about protecting athletes, maintaining high standards, and setting our teams up for long-term success.

1. Technique Consistency = Higher Scores

Cheerleading is not judged solely on the difficulty of a skill. The real difference between average and outstanding scores comes from how clean, sharp, and uniform those skills look when performed as a team.

  • Our Liberty coaches teach specific techniques and progressions that are designed to match across every athlete on the mat.

  • Another gym’s methods may not be “wrong,” but they are different — and even small differences in hand placement, body angles, or tumbling rhythm make the team look uneven.

  • When athletes train elsewhere, we often have to spend valuable practice time reteaching skills so they align with Liberty’s system.

By keeping training in-house, we ensure that every Liberty athlete looks sharp, clean, and unified — which directly translates to stronger scoresheets.

2. Our Coaching System is Purpose-Built for Competition

Our staff doesn’t just “teach tumbling.” We use a proven system of drills, progressions, and corrections that has produced winning results for many years. Every correction is intentional and built around what judges look for.

  • Mixing coaching styles leads to confusion and slower progress.

  • Athletes second-guess themselves when one coach teaches one way and another teaches differently.

  • A single system means clarity, confidence, and faster improvement.

3. Safety and Smart Skill Progression

Your athlete’s safety is our first priority. Because we see our athletes consistently, we know exactly:

  • which skills they’ve mastered,

  • what corrections they need, and

  • when they are ready to safely progress.

Outside coaches don’t have that same knowledge of the athlete’s history. This can lead to:

  • pushing skills too soon,

  • poor mechanics becoming habits, or

  • overuse injuries from training the same skill too frequently in multiple settings.

Keeping tumbling in-house allows us to protect athletes from injury while ensuring steady, long-term growth.

4. Team Unity and Communication

Cheer is a team sport first. What one athlete does affects the entire team. When parents or athletes feel there’s a skill missing, the solution is not to look outside — it’s to communicate with us.

  • We can open a class, clinic, or private lesson targeted to those needs.

  • This ensures that the skill is taught our way, the Liberty way, keeping the whole team on the same page.

When training stays within Liberty, athletes and parents know that every resource is available without conflicting philosophies or mixed messages.

5. Protecting Our Athletes — and Our Program

Finally, restricting outside tumbling prevents other issues that can impact the athlete experience:

  • Recruiting from other programs,

  • divided loyalties or team distractions,

  • and unnecessary comparisons that take away from team focus.

We want our athletes fully invested in their Liberty journey, with no outside influences pulling them away from their teammates or goals.

✨ The Bottom Line

This policy applies specifically to our All-Star athletes because their training must remain consistent, safe, and aligned with our proven system.

We’ve been doing it this way for many years — and it works. By trusting the process, you are not only protecting your athlete’s growth, but also contributing to the success of every teammate who depends on uniformity, safety, and consistency.

Together, we can ensure Liberty Cheer All-Stars continues to stand out for our clean technique, polished performances, and winning results.
